When I grow up I want to be Leilah. First, there's her name – anyone who grew up in my generation (and loved music) will remember a certain Eric Clapton song by the same name. But then there's the cool way they spell it. Most of all, however, I want to be Leliah because she's a bundle of pure joy. I dare you to try and look at these photos without smiling, especially when you get to the ones where she's dancing around and laughing hysterically at her mom (Joni, what were you doing behind me to elicit such rapturous smiles?)

Leilah has an older brother, and when he was two years old their mom had a photo session done for him. She had every intention of doing the same for Leilah, but life gets crazy (especially when you have two kids.) Joni realized that Leilah's third birthday was stalking them and so she called me to do her daughter's two year-old shoot. And boy am I glad she did! It would've been tragic not to have captured this stage in Leilah's life. There is a time when little girls become more self-conscious and less able to throw themselves into every moment. But this ain't it. Leilah, thanks for reminding me that there is joy and delight to be mined from every minute of the day. I can't wait to photograph your little three year-old self at your Aunt Laini's upcoming wedding!

Lily

I remember when she was born. My good friends Jay and Dayne already had an adorable little boy and would've been thrilled with another one. But when Lily came along it was obvious that their family wouldn't have been complete without her. What I remember most is that she had a super contagious smile, one that – if directed at you – would turn the corners of your mouth up regardless of what kind of day you were having.

If I were trying to explain to someone what southern beauty and charm are all about, I'd just introduce them to Lily. She's incredibly sweet, but not the saccharine, syrupy, paint-a-frozen-smile-on-your-face type. She's the kind of sweet that radiates from a heart of pure gold. I didn't get to spend much time with Lily as she grew up, but hanging out with her recently for just one afternoon confirmed what I suspected all along: Lily has become an amazing young woman.

In May she'll graduate from Hendrickson High School in Pflugerville, and from there… who knows? She's pretty much got her pick of universities (did I mention she's beautiful AND smart?) But it looks like she'll stay somewhat close to home: as of last week she had narrowed it down to three probable choices: UT, Baylor, and Mary Hardin Baylor. I love you Jay and Dayne – thanks for letting me be a small part of this momentous occasion. And a huge congratulations to you, Lily, as you say goodbye to childhood and head into the next chapter of your life. I have no doubt the world has a lot to learn from you.

I love this one because she is the spitting image of her mama. Dayne, you contributed more than your fair share of DNA to this kid!

At the end of our session I told Lily I wanted her to bite her mother. Ha! Got just the reaction I was looking for: "F'real?"

Joyous Jessie

It seems like I've known Jessie forever. I don't know exactly how old she was when I met her family, but I'm pretty sure she was a preschooler. And as long as I can remember she's been smiley, bubbly, happy and soooo easy to love!

Jessie's dad is my longtime miracle-worker chiropractor, and her mom is one of the most kind, amazing women on the planet. When Jessie asked me to do her senior photos I knew it would be a fun session. What I didn't know is how incredibly wonderful she would be in front of the camera. You see, she too is a photographer, and most photographers who've landed on the other side of my camera are very uncomfortable and not sure what to do with themselves. Not Jessie. She is more of a natural in front of the camera than ninety percent of the people I've worked with!

Jessie, I am so happy that I've gotten to see you grow up, and I look forward to seeing you grace the world with your numerous talents and gifts.

This little kitty popped her head out of the barn where we were shooting. Once we gave her a tiny bit of attention we couldn't get rid of her!

The Parker Family

Marnie is one of my mom's dearest friends in the world. She has been a phenomenal support to all of us as we have helped our mother battle cancer over the last several years, but more than anything she's been a present, compassionate friend to all. She is truly a gift. Marnie and her husband John have three children who are scattered all over the country, so when they learned that everyone would be together in the same place they asked me to do a photo session for them. What a joy and a delight! They were so relaxed they made my job easy, but then if you take one look at this crew you'll realize that even if they hadn't been so fun they could've gotten by on their sheer good looks! Thanks, Marnie and John, for sharing your family with me; they are indeed a treasure.

Time Waits for No One

Have you ever been blown away by how much someone's kids have grown since the last time you saw them? When it's your own children (i.e. you see them every day) the changes happen so subtly you almost don't even notice. If you're like me, you come across an old picture and freak out at how old your kids have gotten!

The crazy thing about time is that you can't turn it back. So often I've been deeply grateful for old photos because they help me remember what my children were like throughout the different stages of their lives. If I hadn't taken pictures I might have forgotten the adorable little faces they made or what they looked like with baby teeth.

For about seven years now I've been photographing Leti and Dimitri's family. I feel honored and privileged to have been able to capture some of the major events of their lives: their wedding, Leti's pregnancy, the birth of their second child, Olivia, and last but certainly not least, the gradual changes that have happened over the years in their oldest daughter Taylor's life. Next year she's headed off to middle school, which is hard to believe given that she was such a little cherub when I first met her.

I've picked out some of my favorites to show how wonderful it can be to look back. Can you see how much everyone has changed?

The Grands

Words can't even begin to express how much I adore these two little chickadees. I love what I do, but I especially love it when I get to aim the camera at my two granddaughters, Piper Grace and Haven Kathrine (and one of my gorgeous daughters: Hi Mandy!) I'm just gonna shut up and let the pictures do the talking.

Cowboy

I was immediately intrigued with the rugged old guy driving the van. His deeply chiseled face looked like a road map of all the places he had been, cracks and crevices that held secrets and dreams and a whole lot of stories. His smile was wry and wide; it animated his tumbleweed eyebrows because when he lifted the corners of his mouth, his eyes smiled too. I suspected he was a bighearted rascal.

I met Dave Burleson while I was on a press junket for the upcoming film, Seven Days in Utopia. As Dave drove us from the film set back to the golf club, I listened to him chatter with his compadre, who was riding shotgun. Yeah, I was kind of eavesdropping, though it was a full van and they weren't talking in whispers. I asked him a question about what he did, and he started telling me about his career. He's been in 47 films. He was Dean Martin's stunt man, and hung out regularly with John Wayne, Kirk Douglas and Johnny Cash. He even reportedly got James Dean in trouble on the set of Giant.

"I dated plenty of starlets," he said, smiling mischievously.
"Like who?" I asked, skeptically.
"Ali McGraw, Cissy Spacek, Liz Taylor. It's all in here…"

He pulled out some carefully copied articles that had been written about him over the years. He let me make copies of them in the clubhouse office, and after reading them I learned that he was not just an actor, he was a cowboy too. He grew up raising quarter horses and actually raced horses for a living. One article mentioned that he was working on a tell-all memoir entitled, Texas Stud on Location. Though I didn't get to ask him about it, I'm pretty sure that title sums up his assessment of his career and his life. And somehow that makes me smile.

Dave's most recent project is a "cowboy sci-fi" movie entitled Thunder Riders. He produced and starred in the film, and even used unpublished footage John Wayne shot before he died. He calls it an Old West/New West sci-fi saga. Though there were several celebrities around that day, I wasn't nearly as interested in them as I was Dave. I believe that some of the greatest stories around are sleeping deeply within those who never get to stand in the spotlight. I asked Dave if he'd let me take a few photos of him and he was more than happy to oblige. After about twenty shots I posed with him and asked a colleague to snap the picture. Sure enough, when she said "three" he pulled a fast one. I was right: he is a rascal.

Girls, Girls, Girls

Not long ago someone sent me a video of a little French girl telling a fairytale, and I watched it at least five times. Even though I couldn't understand it, the story was mesmerizing. Why? I loved hearing a four-year old tell a story in French, but mostly I was just absolutely taken by the girl's eyes – they were so big and beautiful and wondrous. About a week ago I went to take photos of two little girls, and when I saw two year-old, Mariana, I couldn't believe how much she looked like the French girl! Mariana's family, however, is from Spain. (Yes, the Spain that won the world cup!) I spent about an hour hanging out with this beautiful family, and never got over how adorable their girls are. I think Carmen (six months) never got over the fact that a stranger was standing over her with a big black clicking contraption (my camera.) She only cracked a smile a couple of times, so it's a good thing that her "serious" face is absolutely stunning. Belen (Mom), Ricardo (Dad) and I all tried our hardest to get the girls to cooperate with a family pose, but for the most part they weren't having it (see commentary below!)

Have I mentioned lately how much I love that my job allows me to meet such wonderful people? Thank you, Belen and Ricardo for letting me capture some photos of your little angels. They are truly delightful.By this time I was loudly singing "Elmo's World" to get the girls to look my way. "La la la la, La la la la, Elmo's World..." It's a wonder mom and dad kept a straight face. I'll pretty much make a fool out of myself to get the shot!Those EYES! I know so many women who would pay big bucks to have eyelashes like these!Can you tell by looking at Mariana's face that she is so done?? By this time I think everyone was.

Here Comes the Sun

Some babies have more than their fair share of personality and charm, and Greysun is definitely one of those kids. You know those E Trade TV commercials where there's a baby talking about the stock market? I seriously thought a few times that Greysun might turn around and tell me to hold on while he answered a call on his Blackberry. He has that much personality. Several times I had to remind myself that he is only six months old. How can someone who has only been on the planet for 180 days have so many different expressions? How can a person who only weighs about 20 pounds hold such a staggering amount of wonder and joy? Suffice it to say that Greysun had me wrapped around his little finger from the moment I met him. And I'm wagering a bet that he'd put his spell on you too.

Greysun's grandmother Amanda is a friend of mine, and she messaged me one day to say that her grandson was growing up too fast, and she needed to get some photos in order to "freeze" him at this adorable age. You can judge for yourself, but I think we accomplished that aim – and then some!

I've gotta say that it totally jazzed me to see how much Greysun loves his parents, Jesse and Marley. Most of his smiley expressions were non-verbal conversations with his dad, and throughout the shoot he kept looking adoringly at his mommy. One glance at his parents and you can see why he's such a beautiful baby!

Thanks Jesse, Marley and Amanda for introducing me to your little charmer. He's got a face (and a heart) that I won't soon forget.

A New Era!

As you might have noticed it's been awhile since I've posted on here. I would tell you I'm sorry, but I imagine you may be as tired of hearing it as I am of saying it. Truth is, I've been quite busy. Besides finishing my degree at St. Edwards University, I also recently launched a brand new wedding business with my good friend and colleague Ashley Smith. From now on, this blog will be reserved for all of my non-wedding work, including portraits, headshots, commercial work and all the other random things I tend to photograph. To kick off the new season of this blog I'm posting photos of one of my beautiful granddaughters, Piper Grace. I used to love to play dress-up, and actually wore the bracelet and earrings Piper has on when I was a kid. They belonged to my sweet grandmother, Mildred P. Kelley (aka "Mimi.) The other day Piper came over to our house and had a blast putting on some dress up clothes I bought at Goodwill. I think someday she may give the Queen a run for her money.

Kathryn's Graduating!

I got an email from Suzanne, asking about my doing her daughter's senior photos. As usual I was giddy, because I love photographing seniors! We finally connected by telephone and when we started trying to put something on the calendar I realized what a Wonder Woman her daughter is! Not only is Kathryn a senior at Cedar Park High School, she is up to her ears in tests and homework, holds a steady job, AND is on the LACROSSE TEAM!! Wow. I'm not certain what the definition of a renaissance woman is, but I'm pretty sure she is one. And is she ever a doll! Honestly, I think if she was any more adorable it would hurt my eyes. We had so much fun last week exploring downtown Austin, laughing, hanging out amongst the interesting folks who wander the streets. It felt like they were old friends. Suzanne was director of wardrobe, and — as you'll see in the last photo — chief donor of exquisite genes (okay, I've never seen Suzanne's husband, but... just sayin'.) Kathryn will be a proud Texas Longhorn this fall, and is no doubt gonna rock the campus. Congrats on finishing high school, Kathryn, and congrats mom, on raising such a wonderful daughter!

Sarah and Andrew

Yes, even photographers have fun at weddings. Sarah and Andrew got married last weekend at The Vista on Seward Hill, and everyone (including me) had a total blast! My husband has known Sarah's family for more than 15 years. He had told me many times what wonderful people they are, and though I believed him, I was really blown away by what kind, loving, fun folks they are. Let's just say I'm a fan. Anyway, in addition to the fact that I was looking forward to hanging out with them for an entire wedding, I was also excited to get to take pictures of Sarah and Andrew. They are easy on the eyes, as the old saying goes, and are so in love I thought I might just see hearts floating around them on their wedding day. The most priceless expression of the day was Andrew's face - EVERY TIME he looked at her! Everyone should be that in love. Really.

I got to meet Andrew's family the day of the wedding and they were awesome as well. So laid back, so nice, so over-the-top happy for the newlyweds. It was a perfect day. Families like this make my job easy. And - I have to say it - with a bride like Sarah, how could any photographer miss? She is absolutely gorgeous! Stunning. In case you were wondering, this is what a real, live princess looks like. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Donovan; may you always be as happy as you were on your wedding day!

Mr. and Mrs. Crowell

About a year or so ago I met Adam while doing a photo shoot for a band he was in, and not long after I got an email from him saying he was engaged! Adam's such a likable guy, easy going, and has a heart the size of Texas. He fell hard for a beauty named Faye, and they asked me to shoot their wedding. I am so glad I had their date open, because as far as brides and grooms go they're awesome. I first met Faye at another wedding I shot last summer (yeah, there's a wedding epidemic among their friends!) and instantly liked her. She just carries herself with such grace and poise, is very kind, and has a really admirable strength about her.

Well, that strength paid off on their wedding day. They happened to get married last weekend in San Antonio, the one where everyone in Texas was shocked at the blast of cold weather we got on the first day of spring! It was not only cold but the wind was relentless, whipping through the Canyon Springs Golf Club like nobody's business. And the wedding was outside. Faye, however, was so happy and full of joy, it didn't affect her one bit. While the rest of us were shivering she just lived the life out of every moment. Check it out - does she look cold in ANY of these photos? And Adam was so taken by her, I don't think he noticed the cold either.

Other than the fact that they're just wonderful people to be around, my faves at this wedding were:
The shoes - I'm a total shoe person and LOVED the bride and groom's footwear!
Her hair - Could it be any more exquisite?
The couple's sense of humor - I love it when the people I work with know how to have a good time. Truth is, when the bride and groom are having fun, everyone does!

The Sweetings

They say love conquers all, and these two are living proof that it's true. Erika and Hans were high school sweethearts and it's safe to say that they "grew up" together. Think about it - how much have you changed and grown since your high school years? I look back on some of the "relationships" I had as a teenager and am mighty glad to have called it quits before we wound up at the altar. Not Erika and Hans, though... they graduated and both ended up at UT. They delved into their studies, enjoyed the multi-faceted experience of student life, and yet they knew deep down that they were meant for each other. For good. But they wanted to put first things first. So Erika went off to Stanford and got her Masters Degree, Hans kept plugging away at biology back in Austin, and when the time was right, they got married last October. Our dear friend Ashley Smith shot their wedding and did a gorgeous job. But the newlywed couple had so many adoring fans at their reception it was hard to find the time to do couple photos. And so now a few months later - after their honeymoon, now that they're settling in to being an old married couple, they decided to get all decked out again and spend another afternoon as bride and groom. And they asked me to take the photos. We had so much FUN! I am so happy for them, and so proud of all they've accomplished (I can say that because I'm a mom!) Congratulations, lovebirds. You deserve every joy life has to offer.

The Johnson Family

I rely on several obvious things when I shoot weddings - good equipment, well-planned schedules, years of experience, and a whole lot of grace. One thing that might not be as apparent, however, is that I also rely a lot on Vivian and Lonny. They - along with daughter Heather - are the geniuses at Karavel Shoes who take good care of my feet so that I can withstand 6+ hours at a time on them, carrying lots of heavy equipment! Their other two daughters (and their families) were in town for the holidays, and they didn't just saunter down IH 35 from Dallas or Oklahoma. One family is from Montana, and the others came all the way from Japan. So understandably, they wanted to get some family photos taken while everyone was together! I spent a chilly afternoon with them a few days after Christmas, and we had a ball. What adorable grandkids! Here are a few of my favorites from the shoot. Thanks, Vivian and Lonny, for inviting me to spend an afternoon with your offspring - what a wonderful family! And seriously, folks, if your feet need some loving care, give them a call.

Sweet Haven

Ryan

I have three daughters so I can say this: you know how mommies tell their young daughters that when they grow up they need to pick a great guy? Well, I met the prototype last week (sorry Ryan, but you are!) Not that I'm trying to get my daughters married off; all three of them are quite a bit older than Ryan is, and two are taken! But I left the shoot thinking about what a likable kid he is. Okay, he's really not a kid. But when someone is younger than your children are, they're for all practical purposes still in the kid category :) Anyway, Ryan is a senior at Cedar Park High School, and is on the golf team. I spent an afternoon with Ryan and his mom at the UT Golf club last Monday, and we all had fun clowning around on the course. Ryan hasn't committed 100% to a university, though it's looking like he'll be heading to A&M in the fall. For that reason, when we passed a small longhorn emblem on the course, I asked him to strike an Aggie pose. That way, if someone gives him grief someday about doing his senior photo shoot at a UT facility, he can whip out that picture and save face! These are the kind of people who make my job easy - I really enjoyed getting to know them. Thanks Ryan and Jody, for letting me be a part of this momentous event. Hope you have a fantastic holiday!

Meagan and Ellen

There are few things in this world more precious than true friends. Ellen and Meagan have been best friends since before they started kindergarten, and from the minute I met them I figured they could probably keep us all entertained with the stories they have to tell. Ellen is a Drum Major in the Cedar Park High School band, and Meagan is the First Lieutenant of the Cedar Park High School Celebrities. I spent a mild, breezy afternoon with these two and their awesome moms, and had a wonderful time. Graduating from high school is such a cool passage, and I'm always grateful to be invited to capture the scene before the graduates head off to college.

These two brought some stellar things to the shoot with them. Ellen wore a necklace that her grandmother gave her - a gorgeous turquoise piece that rocked every outfit she wore. And Meagan has shoes, shoes shoes; those of you who know me probably guessed that I was very excited about the shoes, because, well, I love photographing unusual shoes! There was never a dull moment because these women love to laugh.

Thanks Ellen and Meagan! I loved hanging out with you and your moms. Hope you enjoy this "preview" of your senior portraits!

I have been friends with Tara and Eric for several years and we've been through a lot together... a lot of wonderful things!! I shot their engagement photos, did Tara's bridal portraits, and also photographed their wedding! It has truly been a joy to be in on so many of their monumental moments. Little Sascha was born in July and she is absolutely full of personality! I recently spent a morning getting to know her, and we all had a great time together. Ever walk a mile...

...in someone else's shoes?

I've always been fascinated by feet. I think you can tell a whole lot about someone by their footwear. Here are a few recent favorites I've come across: The first one was taken on a Southwest Airlines Jet while we were cruising at 30,000 feet (no pun intended). I was sitting next to a guy who was on his way to Miami for a vacation, and when I caught a glimpse of his shoes I asked if I could photograph them. Slightly embarrassed and amused, he agreed. So I got up, got my camera out of the overhead bin, and got down on my hands and knees in the center aisle to take pictures. There were more than a few raised eyebrows, but I didn't want to let him get away without taking a photo. Don't they just LOOK like party shoes? The other two are from guests at a recent wedding I shot. Stay tuned for more.

Taryn and Jeremy

Last weekend I headed out to The Vista on Seward Hill to shoot Taryn and Jeremy's wedding, and it was an incredibly fun evening! Everything was absolutely gorgeous - especially the bride. One minute we'd be laughing out loud, and then the next people were wiping away tears due to something really poignant or touching that had happened. It was how a wedding should be: celebratory, meaningful, and attended by a host of people who adore the bride and groom. The most wonderful thing about it for me was seeing how deeply in love these two are. Yes, most people are in love when they get married, but some show it more than others. Taryn and Jeremy celebrated with abandon, and it was contagious. This was an awesome wedding, and I'm really happy to have been a part of it. Thanks, Taryn and Jeremy - and all the best as you settle in as husband and wife!!
UT had already won their game before the wedding even started. There were a few people in the wedding party who were happy about that! Of course the burnt orange rose petals in the next photo sort of give that away.Monique had a little difficulty retrieving the groom's ring from its hiding place :)

Angela and Justin

I headed up to Ft. Worth last weekend for Justin and Angela's wedding. The event took place at a historic old house, Thistle Hill; it was a gorgeous setting and a beautiful wedding! When I arrived, Angela and Justin were just milling around, taking care of details before getting ready themselves. I can honestly say after all of the weddings I've photographed that these two were among the most laid back brides and grooms I've ever worked with. Everything was so peaceful. Justin is an old friend of my husband's and so it was very special for us to be a part of this amazing day. They are both wonderful souls and deserve every bit of love and joy that has come their way. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Schneider - we are so happy for you!

Introducing: The Harpers!

It was a beautiful, rainy, spectacular day. Christi and Harley selected a very unique outdoor setting for their wedding - one that was so well suited to them! Lovers of music, this couple was right at home surrounded by all of the memorabilia and artwork that the owner has collected over the years. And after the ceremony, the first of three bands (yes, I said three!) kicked off the reception. It rained and rained, but the bride and groom radiated so much joy, the celebration was as bright as ever. Everyone had such a fantastic time - these two are incredibly blessed, as it was more than apparent how much their friends and family love them! Thanks, Christi and Harley, for letting me be a part of your special day!

Sophia's First Birthday

Sweet little Sophia had her first birthday last week, and I got to spend the first part of the morning with her. What an incredibly cute baby girl! Faye and Adam

Last Friday morning I headed up to Georgetown to do engagement photos with Faye and Adam. Faye is a very proud graduate of Southwestern University, and after our shoot I can see why: what a beautiful campus!! (Yes, I've been there once or twice, but never behind the lens.) I met Adam when he was in a band I did promo photos for, and these two got engaged not too long after. I absolutely love doing engagement photos for couples who are so in love. Yes, most people getting married are in love, but not everybody is bubbling over with it. These two definitely are! I can't wait to shoot their wedding in San Antonio next year. Thanks Faye and Adam - I had a great time!

Esau Family

The Esau family invited me to their lovely home last week, and I had a wonderful time with them! They wanted to get some family photos taken before Zach - a recent Vista Ridge High School graduate (valedictorian!) - took off for the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs! It was apparent from early on that this is a tight-knit bunch - I especially enjoyed seeing little Abby love on her brother :) And don't you just love the red hair??? Rebel and Will

Rebel and Will are the kind of people I just know I was meant to work with. I didn't know them before they were referred to me, but when I met with Rebel and her mom we really hit it off. I didn't meet Will until the wedding day, but when the couple rode off in a horse-drawn carriage after their reception I truly felt like I had made two new friends. A wedding is a very sacred space - such an intimate and important event, and I always feel privileged to be invited in.

I wasn't the only one singing their praises; most of the vendors were talking about what an awesome and easy-to-work-with couple they are. The wedding was at the always fabulous Allan House; thanks, Whitney, for hosting a spectacular event. And Heather at Hill Country Event Planning was a dream to work with, making sure every little detail fell into place. Anyway, the wedding and reception reflected how much their family and friends adore them; they were 100% in the celebratory spirit of things (of course the gospel choir also added some uumph!) Congratulations Rebel and Will...and thanks so much for everything!

Ed and Brie were good friends for years before they fell in love... I happen to have known them before the latter happened! I was so happy to be a part of this celebration because they are two of my favorite people - so full of kindness and grace. Brie was every bit as breathtaking as I imagined she'd be on the wedding day, and Ed looked fantastic in his tux. Really, Ed. I don't say that to all the grooms :) I couldn't be happier for this couple, and for all the folks who are fortunate enough to call them friends!

I had such a great time at Kaiti & Andy's wedding... they have AWESOME families! It rained earlier in the day but as you can see that didn't dampen the spirits of anyone. One of my favorite things about Kaiti (other than the fact that I've known her since she was in about the third grade!) is that she is all about the fun, completely uninhibited, and so full of joy. You know that saying about dancing like no one's watching? Yeah - that was probably written about Kaiti. These two are so in love and seem so perfect for each other. It's funny what you can see through the lens of a camera. The first time I lifted my Nikon to Natalie I could tell that she is a confident woman who knows what she wants in life. But that doesn't mean she's lacking in the "fun" department! I met Natalie and her parents a few weeks ago to do her senior photos, and we thoroughly enjoyed talking and shooting and laughing together. It was a beautiful day. A couple of weeks ago I shot Robin and David's wedding at the Texas Baptist Children's Home. It was a gorgeous ceremony, and afterward we all headed over to the elegant Bella Note on Main Street in Round Rock for the reception. What a fun party!! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting their wonderful friends and family, and know everyone had a great time. Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Rodriguez! These guys were so excited they almost dropped her! OK, you know you're getting old when your children's friends are now moms! Hayden's mom and my daughter were the best of friends in elementary school. About two weeks ago I met Morgan, her mom, and her best friend Melissa at Round Rock Memorial Park to do Morgan's senior photos. This was one of those shoots where you forget you're working because you're having so much FUN! These two girls - both members of the Cedar Park Celebrities dance team - were full of energy, joy, and just plain goofiness! Not long ago I headed out to the UT Golf Club in Steiner Ranch to shoot Taylor's senior photos. The location was his mom's idea and it was a great one! A senior at Cedar Park High School, this guy is every bit the sportsman, as he was on the football team, enjoys lifting, and also (surprise!) plays golf. He's headed off to TCU in the fall. Friday I had the pleasure of shooting some of the happenings at the Belmont on 6th Street during SXSW. Grammy Award winner Adele sang a few songs in front of a small but adoring crowd, and it was never a dull moment from the live studio of Ustream.tv. It's an interesting scene down there in that you never know who's going to show up. Jeff Dowd, (pictured below in purple) is the guy the Coen Brothers based the main character in The Big Lebowski on. My good friend Lucas Hendrickson is a regular panelist on the weekly podcast "Are You Really Experienced?" - a discussion of music, tech, and creativity. They'll be broadcasting live throughout the interactive, film and music portions of the festival; you can tune in here.

Well, as you can see I haven't blogged in awhile, but I have a good excuse! My second granddaughter came into the world on February 4 and I've been trying to juggle work and school so as to find plenty of baby time :) I'll be posting lots of pix of Haven soon, but first I want to introduce you to one of the most vibrant, fun seniors I've worked with in a long time. I had the privilege of shooting Ross and Kristin's wedding on August 9th at the UT Alumni Center. It was a spectacular evening! Everything was so beautiful - especially the bride. Everyone loved the flowers and the festive wedding colors (wearing light blue in August somehow seems to bring the temperature down a few degrees.) Family and friends were delighted to take part in this momentous occasion, and I think it's safe to say that a good time was had by all. I hung out with Piper this morning and we had a GREAT time! I got to give her a bath, wash her hair, and play, play, play. This is what her hair does when it dries... looks like some British Punk band gave her a makeover! She's almost 4 months old now and is super fun to be around. About 11 days ago I had the privilege of being a part of Lauren and Josiah's wedding at Riverbend's Smith Family Chapel.I've known the groom's family for years and years, and it was great to get to meet extended family and see everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. And though I didn't meet Lauren until a few days before the wedding I instantly connected with her because she's such a free spirit (and adorable as well!)

The pre-wedding jitters were nowhere to be found in the bride's room; Lauren sat comfortably on the vanity counter and just hung out while she was waiting to get dressed.Rather than go with a traditional wedding gown, Lauren selected a very cool vintage dress that was perfect for her!The alien earrings totally made the outfit! (Just kidding - she didn't wear those down the aisle. We were only playing around!)Mother and daughter shared a few joyful moments before the ceremony began - I love the contrasts of hair and clothing!In the meantime the groom was doing a valiant job of figuring out how to tame his tie.Family was close by at every turn, assisting, celebrating, and giving pre-ceremony hugs.I love the raw emotion in this photo - what a special moment between mother and son!Josiah and Norman (the couple's officiant) also had some lighthearted moments before the wedding.The bride's bouquet was gorgeous, as was the setup at the altar. Leslie Lucas of J L Christopher did a fantastic job with all of the flowers.Finally, the bride made her way down to meet her father.The ceremony was so beautiful and elegantly simple. It was short, sweet, and full of meaningful exchanges.Afterward the families of the bride and groom surrounded them in the foyer. What an incredible network of love and support!Once everyone was headed over to the reception, Lauren and Josiah snuck down to the Remembrance Gardens for a little time to savor some newly married moments.The reception was held at Siena RestaurantAnd while the atmosphere was beautiful and the food was delicious, the most stunning part of the reception lineup was the wedding cake. The bride's grandmother actually made it herself!
There are hundreds of pictures (which will be posted on my website in a few weeks)but this photo summary certainly reveals that it was a stellar day. Congratulations Lauren and Josiah!
